About Me

My photo
I’m a Christian, first and foremost. It is the first description I can give of myself. Next I was blessed with a wonderful family. I had wonderful parents and we were raised in a Christian family with lots of love. I have 2 younger sisters and their children are like my own. Now they have grown up and have children of their own and they are like our grandchildren. My father was a TVA Engineer when I was born and we lived all over Tennessee my first 8 yrs of life but then we moved to upstate SC and have been here ever since. One of my interests is genealogy and I’ve been blessed that both my husband’s family and my family have lived around us within a 300 mile radius for hundreds of years which makes it easier. My husband and I have been married for over 44 years. He still works but is close to retirement. I’m disabled. I spend a lot of time on my interests and I use my blog to document my projects much like a scrapbook.

Genealogy - Lewis Frances Barnes and Anna Elizabeth Brawley

Lewis Frances Barnes and Anna Elizabeth Brawley

Lewis Frances Barnes (DOB: 10/1/1851 in Davidson County, NC; DOD: 9/21/1934 in Davidson County, NC) married Annah Elizabeth Brawley, “Betty” Brawley, or “Bettie” Brawley (DOB: 12/17/1856 in Davidson County, NC; DOD: 3/2/1929 in Davidson County, NC) on 10/14/1875 in Davidson County, NC. They are both buried in the Barnes Cemetery next to Churchland Baptist Church, Hwy 150 in Davidson County, NC. They were strictly Lutheran. He was a farmer and worked as a blacksmith at the Spencer Yards. This was a railroad maintenance yard in Spencer and it was large. It was considered a great employer. He was a merchant in the Boone Township probably when he was helping his son Avery (see below). According to the censuses they both could read and write. They lived in the Tyro Township of Davidson County all their lives. Lewis and Betty Barnes had these children:

The dates of birth and dates of death on Johannes George Schweissguth and his wife, Anna Katherine Girsius are the same so I don’t know if this is correct. Johannes George Schweissguth and Anna Katherine Girsius had Lorentz Schweissguth (DOB 2/10/1723-1724 in Weisbaden, Nassau, Hessen, Germany; DOD 3/12/1799 in Paradise, York, Pennsylvania) who married Catherine Elizabeth Weyer (DOB 1/23/1719-1720 in Bierstadt, Hesse-Nassau, Germany; DOD 1760 in Paradise, York, Pennsylvania) on 8/16/1746 in York, York County, Pennsylvania. I found some information on the areas of Germany mentioned in the above family trees.

Lehrbach, Hessen, Germany is just east of the city of Kirtof in Hessen, Germany.

Elbigenalp, Tyrol, Austria is in the Alps in northwest Austria. Elbigenalp lies embedded between Lechtal Alps and Allgäu Alps. Elbigenalp nestles right up to the mountains, the Bavarian, Lechtal and Allgäu Alps. It is set in a region of castles and palaces, mountains and lakes, the loveliest spot in the eastern Allgäu. Two famous castles built by King Ludwig of Bavaria, Neuschwanstein – audacious and other-worldly – and Hohenschwangau – romantic and welcoming – sit boldly on their hilltops as if they had been there forever. They are a little northeast. Since the Middle Ages (1312) Elbigenalp is the political and spiritual centre of the parish Lechtal.

Nesselwangle, Tyrol, Austria is in the Alps in northwest Austria.

Saarbrucken, Saarland, Germany is slightly south on the west side of Germany. It borders France and Luxembourg.

Hesse-Nassau, Germany was part of Hessen which is situated between Germany’s Westfalen (northwest), Rheinland (west), Baden (southwest), Bavaria (southeast), Thuringen (east) and Nieder-Sachsen (northeast). Hessen’s a little left of central Germany. Hesse-Nassau was the northern part of Hessen.

Weissbaden, Germany is west of Frankfurt on the southern border of Hessen.

York, Pennsylvania is on the southern border of Pennsylvania with Maryland just across the line. York was founded in 1741 by Philadelphian settlers. During the Revolutionary War, York served as a temporary capital for the Continental Congress. The Articles of Confederation were drafted in York.
